General Hospital Recap, January 13: Alexis nearly blows the case as Ava finds Valentin
Britt walked into an exam room to find that Marco was her patient, but of course, he wasn’t sick. Marco was there on Sidwell’s orders to warn Britt that they were falling behind on their research. He wanted her to speed things up. Britt blamed the slowdown on Dalton’s death and asked to just be left alone. “I don’t see that happening,” Marco said, getting in Britt’s face.
Britt also blamed the research issues on not having a lab and suggested that Marco and Sidwell find a new lab far from Port Charles and find someone else to do the research. That’s when Marco told Britt she had a new lab right on Spoon Island.
Britt warned Marco that Lucas would become suspicious if he knew that she was frequently on Spoon Island. Marco warned Britt to stay away from Lucas. “Don’t ever use him to threaten me again,” he said.
He then suggested she just move into Wyndemere. Britt balked at the idea, so Marco ordered her to come up with a cover story for any time she would spend there.

In her attic, Carly asked Valentin why he was once again so anxious. He worried Charlotte would find him again, so he wanted Carly to take a risk and search Jack’s hotel room. Carly immediately told him that it was an insane idea. They argued back and forth for a while until Valentin finally convinced Carly to get the job done.
Valentin was sure that Jack had incriminating info about Sidwell in hard copy and needed Carly to take photos of it. “We can use it to incriminate Jack and exonerate me,” he said. “Then, Jack can be the one rotting in Steinmauer.” Valentin reminded Carly that the alternative was Carly continuing to have sex with a man she despised. Valentin told Carly there was no time like the present to get the job done. In the meantime, he was embarking on an exploratory mission to Wyndemere.
Carly finally did what Valentin asked and used her Metro Court key to get into Jack’s room. When she found an envelope taped to the bottom of a drawer, she took pics of the papers inside. Before she could clean everything up and leave, she heard Jack and Britt outside the door. Carly was surprised when Britt told Jack it would be harder than she thought to pass him her research.

At Wyndemere, Sidwell told Jordan that he wanted her to attend Willow’s trial. “From what I’ve heard, Drew made quite an ass of himself on the stand yesterday, and I want to see if he acts up today…I’m starting to believe that Drew is not the politician I need in DC,” he said.
Jordan pointed out that Drew was elected and cannot just be replaced. Sidwell told Jordan that she should never underestimate him because he typically gets what he wants.
In her Wyndemere prison, Anna woke to Pascal bringing her breakfast. Anna dropped her cup of water. Pascal remarked that she was not usually so clumsy. Anna looked at her wrist and told Pascal that something was wrong. She told Pascal about her blood cancer. She needed a phlebotomy infusion quickly. “I am no use to you dead,” she said.
Pascal later reported to Sidwell that Anna may be having health issues, so Sidwell told him to keep an eye on things. That’s when Ava arrived for a visit, but made sure that Lucy wasn’t there.
When Pascal returned to Anna, he found her passed out on the floor. However, when he entered her room, Anna managed to overtake Pascal and grab his gun. Upstairs, Ava wandered into the living room without Sidwell to find Valentin standing there. “Does Jenz know he is harboring a fugitive?” Ava asked a shocked Valentin.

Alexis entered her office to find Diane in a wheelchair after a leg injury. Alexis explained to Diane that she needed her legal services. “I can’t defend my client anymore. She did it. Willow shot Drew. I can’t help Willow get away with attempted murder,” Alexis declared.
Alexis explained what she had learned from Trina and Kai, as well as when she called a number that had called Willow, Wiley answered. Diane had to remind Alexis that she was still obligated to defend Willow, whether she was guilty or innocent.
“My gut tells me the jury is going to acquit her, unless I use my closing to tell them what really happened,” Alexis said. Diane reminded her she could be disbarred, plus the judge would declare a mistrial. Alexis also explained exactly why she wanted Willow behind bars.
“If she’s acquitted, my granddaughter will be raised by a would-be murderer who married her victim to cover it up. What else is she capable of?” Alexis asked, before crying. “My daughter isn’t here to protect her, so I have to.”
Diane still wasn’t sold and told Alexis that she knew what she had to do, reminding her how hard she worked to get her law license back. If she threw Willow’s case, she risked losing her law license for good.

In the courtroom halls, Dante ran into Jack and asked if the WSB had tampered with PCPD evidence. Jack stonewalled, but then suggested that Drew might have used his political power to make the evidence go away. Across the hall, Nina listened in.
Dante soon reported to Justine that Jack denied tampering with evidence, but he didn’t completely believe him. They also felt Chase might have been the one to do it.
Michael and Jacinda arrived at the courthouse, with Jacinda worrying her presence might cause more bad press for Michael. He assured her that he didn’t care. He wanted her there with him.
Curtis was surprised to walk into the courtroom and find Trina already sitting there. Curtis explained he was worried that Willow’s possible acquittal could mean bad news for Michael and Aurora. He asked Trina why she was still so interested in Willow’s trial. Trina said she was there to support Kai. Just then, Jordan walked in, so Trina made herself scarce.
Elsewhere in the courtroom, Willow worried about the verdict, but Drew assured her things would be fine. Willow laid it on thick, telling Drew she never would have gotten through this all without him. Drew assured her that Michael would go to prison for attempted murder and she’d get full custody. “That would be a dream come true,” Willow said.
When Suzanne arrived without Alexis, Willow grew worried. Drew walked away to make a phone call, so Willow turned around and spotted Michael and Jacinda. Drew returned and told Willow that Michael was smart to be there. “When you’re guilty, the best thing you can do is hold your head high and proclaim your innocence,” Drew said, not realizing the irony.

Eventually, Alexis arrived and began her closing arguments. “Willow had every opportunity…” a nervous Alexis began. However, she quickly corrected herself and said, “Michael” rather than Willow, leaving Justin quite perplexed. Alexis got through her speech to the jury before Justine gave the prosecution’s closing arguments. Alexis was a wreck, but Justine stayed calm, worried that her case was not strong enough.
After the jury left to deliberate, Michael told Jacinda he hoped the jury could see Willow for who she really was. As for Willow, she thanked Alexis, who told her not to thank her just yet. “I’m hopeful. You gave me the best defense possible. And if I go free, it’ll all be because of you,” Willow said, sweet act intact.
