The Young and the Restless boss reveals a big mystery and Matt Clark’s reign of terror for 2026

The Young and the Restless head writer and executive producer, Josh Griffith, has revealed what fans can look forward to in the New Year.

As Parade reported, beloved veteran The Young and the Restless star Jess Walton (Jill) marks a major milestone in 2026. The CBS soap will go all out, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what’s in store for fans.

New Mystery Unfolds on The Young and the Restless

Speaking with TV Insider, Griffith confirmed a “big mystery” will take over Genoa City. The mystery will see Devon (Bryton James) and Abby (Melissa Ordway) back at the forefront.

It will also tie in with what is currently happening with Tessa (Cait Fairbanks), Mariah (Camryn Grimes), and Daniel (Michael Graziadei). The drama and mystery will force Christine (Lauralee Bell) back to town and away from Danny (Michael Damian).

“She’ll have to put back on her lawyer hat and help someone who’s in big trouble out of that story,” Griffith expressed about Christine, while alluding to either Devon, Abby, Daniel, Mariah, or Tessa landing in serious trouble because of the mystery.

The Matt Clark Chaos Plays Out Well Into 2026 on Y&R

For weeks now, Matt (Roger Howarth) has been wreaking havoc on Sharon (Sharon Case), Nick (Joshua Morrow), Noah (Lucas Adams), and Sienna (Tamara Braun). Matt’s “reign of terror” isn’t ending anytime soon.

In true soap fashion, though, Griffith teased that things are not always as they seem in this storyline as Matt takes drastic measures to seek revenge.

“Matt is going to make a lot of new enemies and cause even more problems for Nick [Joshua Morrow] and Sharon [Sharon Case], for Noah [Lucas Adams] and Sienna [Tamara Braun], and for the whole Newman family. And just when we think he’s out of the picture, we find out he’s not, and we’re heading towards a huge showdown that will incorporate a lot of aspects of the past in a very dramatic way,” the head writer teased.

Those are just a couple of major storylines heating up next year. Along with those, The Young and the Restless fans can look forward to more romance, more feuds, and more AI drama.
